Norwalk has no protected-tree, heritage-tree or tree-size ordinance for private property, so removing a tree in a private yard needs no City permit; the code only lets the Director inspect and order abatement of hazardous or nuisance trees on private land. Street and parkway trees are different: under Norwalk Municipal Code 12.32.070 nobody may cut, trim, prune, plant, spray or remove a street tree (any tree in a street or public place, regardless of who planted it) without prior permission of the Director of Public Services, and the permit is valid for 30 days.
